Looking for the next generation of graphics cards, we find the RTX 5080 release date, what it might cost you, and the specs it might feature. Even though the 40 series is still alive and there have been recent launches, the RTX 50 series release might be the more appealing choice and give us a more fun look at what they have to offer instead.

The XX80 SKU has generally been one of the better choices, or at least it was with the RTX 3080. But that may have not been the case with the RTX 4080, with a price hike that was higher than the performance increase, it has been a bit of a hitch and unwanted card. The 4080 Super does bring the value up with its release so it does make us more hopeful for the Nvidia RTX 5080 release.

RTX 5080 release window prediction

It’s too soon to get any word on the upcoming generation of graphics cards, especially with the current gen still in full swing, but you still may be looking forward to it. And so with plenty of cards still expected it might be some time before the Blackwell cards come out.

Usually, the generations are on a two-year cycle. With the 3080 card launching in September 2020, and the 4080 coming out in November of 2022, it is likely to continue the trend. Although we’re not sure if it will keep getting pushed back, with separate launches. Based on release frequency and past launches, our release window prediction for the RTX 5080 is between September and December of 2024, or CES in 2025 at the latest. Either as part of the launch or not depending on Nvidia’s plans. But for certain the 3nm node from TSMC will be 2024 at the earliest.

Moore’s Law is Dead provides us with a leaked and direct answer for when we might expect the new generation of cards. It is expected to be ready for Q4 of 2024, with the latest release of CES in January 2025. But that doesn’t confirm if the 5080 would come at that time as it may just be the flagship itself or an announcement of the Blackwell architecture.

RTX 5080 price prediction

There are plenty of ways the price can go in the next generation of GPUs. Previously we’d expect pretty similar pricing with the generational leap. Even with the improvements, there might be a small bump but at least close to similar. However, the 4080 was quite the outlier in that series. Looking back at its predecessors the GTX 1080 started at $599 USD, and the RTX 2080 introduction of ray tracing jumped to $699 USD. Then the RTX 3080 kept that initially, and it was the 40 series that seriously changed it up.

It nearly doubled the price of the previous and set an MSRP of $1,199 USD. A significant jump by $400 seems to be to take advantage of the inflated prices for the shortage and scalping that showed Nvidia people will pay that. But clearly not enough as the Super upgrade brought the price down to $999 instead, still high for an 80 model and more aimed at enthusiasts than gamers, but it shows a good direction. In that case, we could expect the 5080 price to sit in the range of $900-1200. That is also suggested by MLID who suggests the 5080 will come in around $1,000.

RTX 5080 specs rumors

With this much time still before the generation, there is still a lot up in the air about what we might expect from the card. But even then, there are still some things going around that might be included and featured on the card. We already know the specifications of the Blackwell to be improved.

According to RedGamingTech, there are some things to expect. With a potential for Nvidia also turn to a chiplet design like the top AMD cards. Especially as they will want to keep being on top and lead with the RDNA 4 release. As if RDNA 3 was any better they could have pulled out something else.

Supposedly there are plenty of evaluation SKUs floating around, with even MCM giants around. It utilizes a new SM structure for improvements. As well as hyperspeed bus interlinks the SMs/chiplets. Along with denoising accelerator as part of RT pipeline important for RT and path tracing performance, and is a supposed biggest leap in history.

But there are also improvements to the VRAM. With GDDR7 now in the market, Nvidia’s next generation is likely to jump on it and feature the newer option. Including the memory bus increases could lead to great performance gains also in rasterization from improved tensor cores alongside RT cores. But with such a focus on AI, this successor might just utilize even more of it to push the capabilities and enjoy frame generation and DLSS even further. Although the bus may stay similar according to recent rumors, with the newer memory that should still increase the bandwidth overall.

When is the RTX 5080 launching?

Following from the previous generation there is a bit of potential in the next offering. With the pricing disappointment of the Ada cards, the Blackwell choice might be something better. And so we expect to see the RTX 5080 launch by the end of 2024. As with a two-year cycle, that’s when it would most likely be there if not by the start of 2025. Leaks have also suggested that Nvidia will be ready for Q4 but certainly for CES 2025.

Will there be an RTX 5080?

Looking forward to the next-gen of cards, then one of the main cards is the RTX 5080. The 80-class card is one of the more popular choices, and it packs a lot of punch for the price. It is a more prominent choice of Nvidia GPUs and as such we don’t see them stopping its release and the 5080 is likely to be released at some point.

How much will the RTX 5080 cost?

With the pricing increase that we saw with the 4080, Nvidia has shown off how much it thinks people will pay for its graphics cards. As such we expect the new card to either match that price or higher, we could see the 5080 cost between $900-$1200. With a good suggestion, it will keep the 4080 Super $1,000 price point.

Final words

What could be the next best graphics cards to come out, the RTX 5080 has a lot of potential if it fits well into the GPU market. Depending on its competitors and demand it can be a hit or a miss, so as long as it’s not priced as high as the flagship GPU it has a good potential. In the range of other RTX 5000 series GPUs, we expect to also see the RTX 5090, RTX 5070, and RTX 5060.
